Quarantine Island
Klazomen / Urla Tahaffuzhanesi, whose construction is thought to have started in 1866-1869, was built by the French in order to prevent the transmission and spread of the disease by passengers arriving by sea during the Ottoman period. This island, which also covers a part of the ancient city of Klazomenai, consists of small and large prisons (tephirhane), warehouses (5 units) belonging to the tephirhane, accommodation units, building groups defined as women's and men's service, Pasha Mansion and hospital buildings. The Pasha Mansion, which is located at a dominant point in the central part of the island and thought to have been allocated to the island administrator, is a rectangular single-storey residential building with a terrace. The water reservoir is located in the central part of the island and is thought to date back to the 18th century.
The island, which served actively until the 1950s, was used as the Sea and Sun Treatment Institute in 1955, the Bone and Joint Diseases Hospital in the 1960s, and was transformed into Urla State Hospital in 1986.
