Climate
Mediterranean climate prevails in Izmir province. Summers are dry and hot, winters are mild and rainy. July-August are the hottest months and January-February are the coldest months. The number of days below zero does not exceed 10 days. It rises above +30 degrees for about 100 days of the year. Snowfall is almost non-existent. Annual rainfall varies between 700-1200 mm depending on the region. In the hot summer months, the wind called "imbat" brings coolness. This wind, which is caused by the difference between the heating and cooling of the land and sea between day and night, is unique to this province. It brings a sweet coolness to Izmir on scorching summer days. Kemâlpaşa district is the region with the highest rainfall. The temperature varies between +42,7°C and -8,4°C.
Geography
Izmir province is green in summer and winter. The green area of Izmir province is very small. However, the vegetation around it is abundant. Nearly 50 per cent of the provincial territory is covered with forest and heathland, 33 per cent with cultivated and planted land, and 15 per cent with meadow and pasture. The portion not suitable for agriculture is two per cent. Red pine, pistachio pine, black pine, cypress, maquis and olive trees are abundant in the vegetation. Vineyards and orchards cover a large area. Kozak Mountain is one of the largest pine nut production areas in Turkey.
