IZMIR ICONS

Izmir Historical Elevator Building / Asansor

Earliest Jewish settlement in the city was 'Juderia', Jewish neighbourhood located on both sides of Ikicesmelik Street. Late 19th - early 20th century saw the Jewish people move towards this Karatas-Asansor region.

In 1907, a Jewish philanthropist named Nesim Levi sponsored a 40 metre tall elevator tower to be constructed. Nesim Levi Bayrakli is rumoured to get his inspiration from a similar elevator in Lisbon.

Asansor also hosts its guests at the lounges on top floor with a panaromic city view.
